World Food Aid has launched an urgent campaign to support families across India and Pakistan affected by the worst floods in Punjab's history. The devastating August 2025 floods—the most severe in over four decades have claimed lives and displaced over a million people. In a matter of hours, entire communities lost their homes, crops, livestock, and livelihoods.

A region in crisis
The Punjab provinces of Pakistan and India, referred to as the breadbaskets of South Asia, are home to 160 million people many of which rely on agriculture. Recent floods have destroyed over 6 lakh acres of farmland, threatening a 20–25% drop in basmati rice production. India and Pakistan together dominate approximately 97% of the global basmati rice export market, with the Punjab regions accounting for almost half of this supply, making this a crisis with both national and global implications.
From the comfort of the UK, it may feel distant but helping these families rebuild doesn’t just restore their lives, it helps stabilise global food security for us all.

Laila Rice, a major exporter of basmati from the Punjab provinces, already has teams on the ground, working closely with World Food Aid to assist families impacted by the floods.
